Bathroom Use
We will also help to work alongside the parents when the time is right to start toilet training.
After your child becomes more confident in using the potty, we then transition onto the toilets. The design of the toilets has been specially designed for the age and stage of development for the age of the children within this room.
There are facilities for nappy changing again, we use is anti-bac after every change.
After the children have either been on the toilet or potty or even after they have had their nappy changed, we encourage the children to wash their hands and staff will support the children in doing this.
Each child on their peg has a bag, clearly labelled with their name, containing their nappies and wipes, this is then used daily for nappy changes.
If your child requires any creams to prevent nappy rash or require creams for eczema, we will ask you to complete a form giving permission, for us to do this after every nappy change or stated on the prescribed label.
Our Room
Toddlers have their own “messy play area” linked to their main toddler room. We provide as assortment of messy play activities for the children to experiment and manipulate from play dough, sand, and water, to painting, sticking and foam play. We provide a variety of natural objects, materials, and music to stimulate and engage, as well as relax and calm the children. We provide heuristic (exploratory) play aimed at children between 18 months and 2 and half years.
We have a variety of construction toys for the children to learn about design, balance, and
We have a role play area in which the children can play in their own imaginative worlds. We change this regularly to coincide with the children’s interests.
We have a cosy corner for the children to relax, play quietly and read books.
We provide table-top activities so that the children can learn through play with an assortment of equipment that provides open ended discussions. At rest time, we put comfortable child appropriate beds down for the children to sleep on and each child has their own bedding, which is laundered in non-bio washing powder weekly.
When children have settled in to the room, practitioners will complete a two year assessment check; this will be a written assessment about your child’s development and give you the opportunity to meet your child’ key person to discuss their progress. Activities are planned daily around the children’s interests following the seven areas of learning provided by the Early Years Foundation Stage. Free play opportunities are provided daily to promote the growing needs of this age group including role play, construction, arts and crafts and many more. We have a cosy area where children can have stories read to them and explore the books themselves. Independence is promoted in this room through self serving at meal times.
Children can access the garden throughout the day and ensure it is at least once in the morning and afternoon. We provide a range of equipment from scooters, bikes, role play and messy play area for the children to enjoy Toddlers ‘play with a purpose’. This includes imitation play, creative play, and slightly more physical play than with younger children.
First Day at Nursery
The children’s settling in process in this room, is very much the same as in the baby room. On your first settling in session,
- You will meet your child’s dedicated key person, who will work very closely with you and your child to ensure your child feels safe and secure while at nursery.
- Your key person will complete “what to expect when document”, so we can gain a good secure foundation of where your child is within their learning and development.
- Your key person will also talk to you about any likes, or dislikes, your child may have and how they settle if they are a little upset, in the first few weeks of starting nursery.
- Ensure that all contact numbers and emergency numbers are correct and updated.
Transitioning
Around 3 years old, we will then transition into our Pre-school room. The children are encouraged to sit at group activities and follow a loose routine so that the transition into our pre-school is as easy and stress free as possible.
